Help! Last year I was on maternity leave during the holidays; I was feeling pretty good, was already recovered from the post-delivery aches and pains, and got to go Christmas shopping with a beautiful new baby who slept the whole time. Moreover, I was the recipient of oooohs and ahhhhhs in every store I entered. I had time. I was thorough and thoughtful.
This year is quite different. With a very active and very loud 13 month old, and a 3-day-a-week job, my time and patience are more limited.
Enter all my blogging friends (I hope!)... I need ideas! Like many of you, I don't have the time to peruse multiple stores thoroughly gleaning ideas for each family member's perfect gift. However, I don't want to buy the proverbial Nike teeshirt or pack of golf balls for all the guys either.
Anyone have good gift ideas for older brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law? The guys love football and golf, the gals are swamped with their many kiddos. I'm counting on your ingenuity and past experiences to help me out here! I will be in your debt...

You could do what I'm doing...give everyone a family portrait of you and yours. Then all you have to buy are cute frames. Oh, and thanks so much for your thoughful comment. It really did make me feel better.
okay... for the busy mom, you could get her a gift certificate to one of those places (ours is called My Girlfriends Kitchen) and you go and make several dinners and freeze them. Then all you have to do is pop em' in the oven. They are yummy and such time savers. And it is a fun date night if you and your husband go and make the dinners together!! Just an idea.
Or you could do what your brother does...buy everyone an on-line gift certificate from amazon.com and let them pick their own damn present.
Mani-pedilicious! Kitchen stuff is great for women, and then you don't have to just get them another sweater, picture frame, candle, or bath item. I also loved that apron you got me - cool aprons are hard to come by. For guys - yeesh. Tell me about it. We have to buy for Dustin.
Golf ball are great, but ONLY if autographed by someone named Greg.
p.s. I LOVE that you know how to write "brothers-in-law" instead of "brother-in-laws." Exhibit B is so annoying to me.
for the gals: i agree - something to pamper: candle, pedicure certificate, massage, some nice smelly lotion. scarf, earrings (World Market has great ones!)
for the guys: maybe a subscription to a magazine (the gift that keeps on giving) like ESPN or Sports Illustrated? Nice slippers are sometimes good gifts. I've always wanted to get my dad a gift certificate to rent a fancy car for the day and drive it around. that could get pricey, though. One year I got dave a gift certificate to a golf course/driving range for several buckets of balls. He really liked that. Stick with a theme - it's more fun that way.
Don't know if I helped or not. I'm going shopping today and feel the same way as you (minus the 13 month old).
Thanks for all your ideas! You guys really gave me some good ones. I'll let you know what I end up getting! Good luck with all YOUR shopping as well~
Not sure what your budget is but as for moms, what about a giftcard for a massage or manicure or facial or something along those lines? Maybe a round of golf and a cart for the guys?
Let us know what you figure out, I'm always looking for fun ideas too!
