Then two days before we were to leave, we received an email detailing that we would be flying somewhere, that we had to pack for weather ranging from 30-50 degrees, and that we had to bring one "fun" outfit for an evening out. We all became so curious and so excited to find out where we were headed!
At 5am last Wednesday morning, we met up in the church parking lot and were given a few clues: "This city almost burned completely to the ground in 1861" and that "This city is known for it's hot-aired politicians" among them. Chicago! We were then told that we would be flying that morning to the Windy City, spending the day shopping on Magnificent Mile and eating the deep dish pizza pies the town is famous for, and that we all had tickets to see the Broadway performance of Wicked that night! After little to no sleep all around (pretty much b/c almost all of us have infants and toddlers) none of us felt tired anymore. We were so excited!
Here are a few of the highlights:
Walking around the streets of Chicago.

Very cool sign reminiscent of old movies.

Me in front of this odd kidney-shaped reflective ball statue thingy with the city scape in the background.

John Hancock building.

Giordano's Pizza where we indulged in 3 inches of stuffed pizza topping goodness. I completely understand why the locals call them "pies."

Right outside the theatre.

If you haven't heard of this book or show, I highly recommend it. I'll never watch or think of The Wizard of Oz the same again! In a word, it truly was amazing.

Since we have family in Chicago, I grew up visiting there but always went to peoples' houses. This is the first time I truly had the opportunity to spend an entire trip (albeit roughly 30 hours) just taking in downtown and indulging in some of the coolest things it has to offer. All in all, this "teambuilding exercise" sure beat the heck out of a campfire and the Human Knot game!

Now THAT is how you team-build! How cool is that they they flew you all up there?!
Mmmm, Giordano's. We ate there with Jared & Rachel a year ago. It is THE most amazing pizza, isn't it? I've been wanting to see Wicked. I've heard lots of good things about it. Glad you had so much fun!
I am sooooo jealous...
That is awesome! So jealous you got to see Wicked...amazing stuff!
I can't think of a better way to Team build anyone.
You have some serious perks with that job! Looks like fun! I love Chicago!
How fun, friend. Glad you had fun. You're the cutest!
Wow, and I bet nobody had to do any trust falls!
How amazing that they would plan all of that for you guys!
Glad you had fun.
Sweet home Chicago! That's where I grew up (well, in a suburb, but still) so I've spent much time in the Windy City. It's such a great place with so many fabulous things to do, I'm glad you got to enjoy just a bit of the things it had to offer. I totally want to see Wicked, I've heard it's amazing! I'll have to live vicariously through you though as there's no plans to come here soon. Glad you had fun!
So jealous! I love Chicago!! And I've been dying to see Wicked. LUCKY!!
Clearly you have forgotten about our double date in Chicago with random boys from Grandpa & Grandma's church. I pretty much remember that they smoked and talked with funny accents. Oh, and that one of them limped because he had shot himself in the knee with a nail gun.
I think it's kind of funny that your ministry send you to see a musical called "Wicked." =) Glad you had fun!!
are you kidding me!? That rocks! I clearly picked the wrong field! ;) Such fun that they sent you somewhere so fun for bonding!!!
Um, perchance is that Jeff Kramer in your group? Have we talked about this before? *brainfart here*
...and another perchance... was one of the guy's names Troy?
Um, how fun is that? I'm so jealous.
By the way... I'm pondering the idea of starting a blog. Feel free to think up a clever name for it.
This sounds like so much fun!! What a neat experience! :)
