An ode to my brother, Rich, and how he has enriched my life all these years:
-You taught me creativity and precision by showing me how to make homemade Numb-chucks and throw them at various neighbor children with stealth and accuracy when I was 7.
-You boosted my intellectual processing skills by inventing and a club with me called "Boosum-sooum-sooum" which included our own written language (which I can still use and decipher).
-You helped me develop courage and bravery by forcing me and Rachel to fight each other when we were in junior high, and by introducing me to Rocky IV.
-You developed my fine arts appreciation when you bought me my first Def Leppard album followed closely by Monster Ballads.
-You built up my physical endurance by dunking me under water in the deep end of the pool until I thought I was going to pass out.
-You taught me taste discrimination and cultural understanding when you took me to drink my first beer.
-But most of all, you showed me what a big brother ought to be when you offered to physically harm any guy who took me on a date if he treated me poorly, and when you cheered louder than anyone else at my college graduation.
(Rich, shown here with nephew, Brice, and wife, Andrea)
Just think, you'll get to celebrate the next birthday with your new baby boy! I know you'll be a wonderful dad because you've been a great big brother. I hope I was a sufficient "little brother!"

awww...how sweet! my favorite is the holding you under water until you thought you'd pass out. Well, actually the numb-chucks is my favorite..that is awesome.
Happy Birthday to Rich from Sarai Cowpie! :)
that first picture is amazing... i mean, i didn't realize that it was possible for two people from my same family to take such a terrible picture ;)
FYI, Justine, we fully MEANT to do the horrid picture pose. That wasn't just misfortune... :)
...laughing out loud at some of those! Happy Birthday, Rich!
Awww... that CRACKED ME UP!!
Lol...oh what people miss out on when they don't have older siblings!
Hi Jackie,
My buddy and I are starting up a blog, oddly with the same name as yours. We're fairly certain we're going to have to change it, as everyone keeps visiting your blog by mistake, but I thought I'd ask just in case. Maybe you can switch to...Runaround Jackie?
Our blog's just getting off the ground, so please don't judge. But if you want to pass the word along it's http://runaroundsues.blogspot.com/.
Thanks Jackie!
Jeez, that previous commenter is a big of a jerk! "Do you mind changing the name of the blog you've had for longer than we've had ours, simply due to the terrible inconvenience endured by our friends when they visit the wrong site?"
Anyway, love the tribute to Tard. I've got to post a weekend recap. We had so much fun with them!
:(
sorry. wasn't trying to be a jerk
To Bourn Inferiority: No problem, I didn't take it as being rude or anything. I'll probably keep the same name b/c it is in honor of my late mom who's name was Sue. My dad always called her Runaround Sue as a joke. Totally don't want to make you feel bad, that's just where the name comes from. :)
Not to intrude on this Bourne Inferiority thingie, but this blog post was designed to honor ME. Let's keep the content Rich-centric, thanks.
Awww...what a funny and sweet tribute to your brother!!
