I have a 15-month-old son who hasn't slept through the night for quite a while. He makes it until about 4 or 4:30am, but then has trouble until we finally get him up, although we have been able to remain firm about not getting him out of bed until at least 6am. Basically something jerks him awake and he sits straight up and cries, eyes still closed. I'm convinced he's still sleeping because if we do go in there and give him his pacifier, he flops over like a ragdoll and goes back to sleep...for about a half hour until it happens again. It's safe to say that neither Greg nor I really gets back to a good sleep because we're nervous he's going to wake up at any minute. We've tried just about everything we've heard or read, and we still average about 6 hours of interrupted sleep a night. My eyes start burning by like 1pm at work and I yawn on my patients all day.
Help!
Tired in Texas
P.S. He is a great napper though; we never have a hard time putting him down and sometimes he'll even take my hand and lead me to his crib so he can sleep. Not surprised, the poor kid's probably exhausted!

The little guy went through something similar as well a while ago. Hopefully it is just a phase, a really cruddy one. But he still is cute!
Hi. I got your comment on my page. Lindsay has told me about your Noah before so it's nice to meet you :-)! After Jackson turned one he woke up in the night for a couple of weeks so I guess it's kinda common at this age. I hope you get some sleep over there!
My girl was a super-early bird at that age also, up by 5am most days. What if you bring him into your bed at that hour? Do you think he might then go back to sleep for a little longer? My girl, who is almost 3, the past few months has started sleeping until 6:30 or 7am most days - while not exactly late, it is heaven compared to 5am! So perhaps there is hope down the road. Another thought... how long and how many naps does he take? Maybe shorten them a bit in hopes he might sleep better at night?
Those are my most favorite binky's ever! Before we left the hospital with Peanut the nurse gave me two handfuls of them.
Poor little guy.
Teething tablets did the trick for Ava when she went through that ever so fun phase - maybe he's working on a molar. At any rate, he sure is cute!!
The way I see it you have two options:
1) Throw half a shot of bourbon in his bottle before bedtime.
2) Invest 99 cents in some foam earplugs. I sleep with them every night to avoid waking up at 3am due to the mateforlife's world class snoring and they work wonders.
Um, are you trying to completely dissuade me from procreating? I value my sleep very, very much.
At any rate, sorry you're not getting much sleep. Why don't you try napping when he does on your days off?
Thanks, I think he will appreciate that! ;) Noah is a cutie!
I she napping once or twice a day? If he is still napping twice, try cutting him down to once.
But that being said, my kids were huge fans of the bright and early wake up at that age. So sorry...
Sorry, "is he..."
He actually takes 2 naps a day, and sometimes needs a 3rd "snooze" in the late afternoon for a half hour! I've taken out that late afternoon nap as much as possible.
Um Rich, you can't have earplugs in when you have a helpless child.
Sasha, Rich IS a helpless child. :)
If he hasn't been sick (waking up at night usually means an ear infection), then i would definitely check his mouth. My little guy is about the same age, and the nights when he is teething are terrible. And he goes right back to long snoozing as soon as it's over. Also, i think cutting out that third nap is smart ...
Hang in there. All things pass ...
Sasha,
Of course I can. I'm going to raise tough babies. If I can sleep for 8 hours, they can sleep for 8 hours. Let 'em try to wake my arse up. Of course I can talk a big game right now 'cuz I have no chillens.
